Here’s a little excerpt about the cheese festival.
A PROUD YEAR OF CELEBRATIONS!
It is almost time for the 15th South African Cheese Festival and we are looking forward to share this extraordinary milestone year with you!
We have lots of reasons to celebrate this year. The festival is known as the biggest outdoor culinary event in Southern Africa and received the platinum award for “Best exhibition in Southern Africa” in 2015. Agri-Expo, organisers of the SA Cheese Festival, celebrates 20 years as the marketing brand of the Cape of Good Hope Agricultural Society, who in turn celebrates 185 years of marketing agriculture to the public.
With the SA Cheese Festival in the Spotlight, cheese lovers can taste and buy the widest variety of cheese, from well-known types like cheddar, gouda and feta to the more exotic, hand-made boutique cheeses in the Checkers Cheese Emporium. Visit the Checkers mini store, where you will find a selection of quality cheese brands, meat, wine and whisky to choose from. View Dairy Square layout.
Expand your culinary skills and learn from famous celebrity chefs who will prepare mouth-watering dishes in the Checkers Theatre and experience the exquisite combinations of cheese and alternative niche products in the new Cape Made Kitchen. Discover a variety of products complimentary to cheese amongst the many stalls at the Cape Made: Taste the Alternatives exhibition and the Agri-Expo Mall. View layout.
Visit the new Agri-Expo Tasting Room for entertainment delights, cheese and beer tastings and cheese with an international flair. Find out how cheeses are judged or why coffee is a perfect playmate for cheese.
Win fantastic prizes with the festival competitions. Create your own masterpiece from a block of cheese in the Ladismith Cheese carving competition or enter for the Life & Leisure competition. Entry forms are available at Blossom’s Gazebo.
The Gourmet Lane offers a scrumptious selection of food or visit the Milk Factory and meet the providers of milk that ensures quality cheese products on the market. Kids can enjoy hours of fun at the Marcel’s kiddies corner and teenagers can chill in the Cell C Teenzone. Enjoy live music at the Ladismith Music Gazebo and join us to conclude the festival on a high note with the music of Al Bairre and Blackbyrd on Monday.
Tickets are available at any Computicket outlet, Shoprite or Checkers store at R150 per day. Senior citizens pay R100 and children 13 years and younger enter absolutely free. No tickets will be sold at the gates. No alcohol will be served to persons under the age of 18.
The festival times are from 10:00 to 18:00 daily. Sandringham is conveniently located next to the N1, exit 39, between Cape Town and Paarl.
