THE BOTTLEBANK – Specialty Gin, Artisanal Beer and Fine Wine Liquor Store

V&A Food Market owners Anton Newbury, Mike Flax and Graham Gordon started the Bottlebank three years ago with the idea of opening the first specialized local handcrafted specialty beer off-consumption store in South Africa. The beer trend has started taking Cape Town by storm so the gap in the market to meet the ever-growing demand and passion for local brew was met by opening this store. Currently there are over 50 beer varieties that are on sale, seven days a week. Once the Bottlebank opened, customers

started demanding locally produced gin and fine wines, which have since been added to the mix. What once started as a beer drinking trend has changed to a craft gin explosion. We now also stock over 20 gin varieties that are produced throughout the country.

If you followed the Michael Angelo Wine and Spirit Awards in 2017 then you will be pleased to know that they have stock of Gold Award winning Gineologist Floral as well their Silver winning Spice. The Bottlebank has stock of 23 out of the top 35 brands that were nominated by Crush magazine as standout South African gin brands.

Distributors and distilleries frequent the market on Saturdays to allow customers to taste the product and to engage with them. For customers, tour operators or special events the Bottlebank management will arrange a tasting made up of a variety of gins. This depends entirely on what package a tour operator or host is looking for. It is best to contact the market first on 021 418 1605 to make arrangements. Varieties and stocks within The Bottlebank is ever-changing and depends on seasonal trends, best-sellers and finding something unique, something special for the connoisseur and tourist alike. It is conveniently placed for those who are looking for a specialist retailer of wine, beer and spirits in the heart of the V&A Waterfront. If you wish to remain clear of the crowds then order on OrderIn.
