NIGIRO TEA – When Eastern Tea culture meets Africa

A young man, Mingwei moved on his own from Taiwan to South Africa at the age of 13 to pursue his education. In Bloemfontein, of all places, he met his wonderful wife Lisa. Despite years of engineering study, eventually culminating in a Civil Engineering PhD in waste water treatment, he realizes that all along his true love is tea. Mingwei ran various tea clubs, tea-related events and ceremonies. After tea journeying in the promotion of tea and development of tea appreciation in South Africa Mingwei moved forward by opening Nigiro Tea. Research shows that tea will likely remain the first choice hot beverage for most consumers in South Africa due to its affordability.

The company has expanded to sell over 90 Teas: Green Teas, White Teas, Oolong, Black Teas, to Fruit and Herbal Infusions and lastly to our unique South African Honey Bush and Rooibos.  Among SA’s 30.9 million-strong tea-drinking population, many already consider Rooibos to be the darling of the teas, but now new independent research confirms that according to market research SA tea-lovers are shifting to a preference for Rooibos rather than Black Tea.

They also offer a variety of excellent kettles, teapots, mugs, and accessories for brewing and serving tea, since teaware and presentation are a major part of the “tea experience.” Be sure to check out our tea collections to find the perfect blend for you.

We hereby thank all the tea lovers that have been supporting this interesting, invigorating and inevitable tea movement in South Africa and the world. There are still much to achieve and people to tea, Origin of Nigiro lays truly within all the tea lovers, behind each cup of tea served at homes, office, hotel, and restaurant.
