TOM& – Jerrys Burgers bar street food to-go concept opens in the V&A Food Market
So what was my our impression of Gavin Hagger? Energetic and enthusiastic and a whole lot of gutspa. We guess that is what it takes to be one of the most diverse “go getting” entrepreneurs in Cape Town. Everything Gavin Hagger touches turns to gold. He takes on opening bars, clubs, restaurants and all things trending like a duck to water. He is most well known in the culinary world as the owner of the Jerry’s Burger Bars that can be found in Illovo, Johannesburg, and dotted all over Cape Town in Kloof Street, Sea Point, Blouberg, Observatory and Willowbridge.
Gavin is no newcomer to the industry and put legendary Durban hotspot Joe Kool’s on the gastronomic map. He also took over the iconic Obz Café in Observatory in 2011 and revived it to its former glory with a newly refurbished menu and New York type feel. His also engaged in other ventures and collaborations, such as joining forces with the owners of Jason Bakery and The Village Idiot to open up Villain’s Ale House in the more recent past.
Gavin has a “will-do-can-do” attitude and soon we realized that he would be able to take burgers to the next level. He decided to open a sister company to Jerry’s Burger Bars.
This is his new to-go concept called TOM& which specializes in a variety of burgers, grilled wings coated in a variety of bastings and a selection of decadent poppers. TripAdvisor voted his burgers 4.5 out of 5 in public ratings. To add Tom& is Halaal Certified and has priced his product to meet the demand for “street food” lovers. He has managed to deliver quality product but allows one to feed a family of 4 for less than R160!
